So I've been a huge fan of HQ for many years now and I'm pretty familiar with all the rules and aspects of the game, but I'm not sure about AHQ (Advanced Hero Quest).  What's really the main difference?  I've seen it on ebay a few times and I've been tempted to purchase it to find out.  The main difference that I can see is that AHQ does away with the board, you have modular dungeon pieces that are used instead, which I do like better.

If anyone has further insight and would like to comment I'd be much appreciated.

Hey Nick thanks for the post.  The main differences between Hero Quest (HQ) and Advanced Hero Quest (AHQ) are the rules and game board.  AHQ include a much deeper and complex set of rules.  Also, as you mentioned already there’s no fold out board as in HQ, but in place of the board are modular gaming pieces that you put together as your dungeon scenario plays out.  In addition, you have merchants or henchmen that as a hero you can hire to accompany you through the dungeon.

I hope this helps.
